Meta Pays Celebrities Up to $5 Million for 6 Hours of Work on AI Chatbots, Report Reveals.

Meta recently introduced its AI assistant feature, which showcases the likenesses of various celebrities. The likes of Kendall Jenner and MrBeast are among the stars lending their personas to Meta's chatbots, each with distinct personalities. According to The Information, an undisclosed top creator was compensated with a staggering $5 million for just six hours of studio work.

Mark Zuckerberg unveiled these AI assistants at Meta's Connect event last month. In addition to Meta's native AI chatbot, the company introduced 28 new chatbots, each with a unique personality, brought to life through the images of celebrities.

For instance, Kendall Jenner's image is associated with Billie, who assumes the role of a supportive big sister, offering advice to users. Meanwhile, Tom Brady embodies Bru, a sports-oriented chatbot for engaging in sports-related discussions.

Meta has also enlisted notable creators such as MrBeast, the individual with the highest number of YouTube subscribers, and TikTok sensation Charli D'Amelio.

The Information's report indicates that Meta initially considered paying over $1 million for the use of these celebrities' likenesses but ultimately increased compensation for the more prominent names. While the report does not specify which individual received $5 million, it primarily refers to creators.

Presently, Meta's AI assistants operate exclusively in a text-based format. However, Meta's announcement video showcased clips of the celebrities speaking through their AI avatars.

In an interview with The Verge, Zuckerberg acknowledged the significant demand for AI versions of celebrities. He noted that this would likely become more prominent in the coming year, citing concerns related to brand safety. Celebrities would want assurance that their likenesses will not be used to propagate problematic content.

In conjunction with the AI assistants, Meta also introduced AI stickers, although this feature has encountered criticism as users have managed to create controversial images, including one depicting a child soldier and another displaying a lewd image of Justin Trudeau.
